Reflection Through the Years

All three years of art I have taken have been amazing. I love my art classes and my teachers. I have definitely learned a lot and I can see when looking back on my work that I have matured and have learned new skills. Drawing techniques and my usage of tools and colored pencils have improved a lot. Art has made me more confident and realize that not everything will turn out exactly as wanted. My years of art have been wonderful and I will miss seeing my teacher and other class mates everyday, although I can always come back and visit! :)

A Week at The Beach

As we cross the bridge I roll down my window and breathe in the stale salty bay, oh how I love that smell. Every summer my family and I spend a week down the shore. I love it! We go to the beach all day, go out to dinner, and then spend quality time watching a movie, walking the beach at night, or playing board games. It is a way to escape from the troubles and responsibilities that well all have at home and at the same time spending it with the people I love. We approach the small blue house that I so eagerly want to settle into for the rest of the week. I walk up the cracked tan side walk lined with these puffy white flowers with long yellow stems in the middle and a black dot that reminds me of an eye. I walk inside the house that holds all of the wonderful memories we had in the past years and start to unpack immediately. For the rest of the night we play our favorite game where you have to finish a sentence that the game gives you and guess who said what on their card. I wake up to my mother singing to my sister and I to get up and ready to go swimming. I have to drag myself out of my comfy bed and put on my bathing suit, for some reason I always sleep better with the fresh ocean air. The walk to the beach is quit a chore, even though it is only three blocks away the green heads are nasty and bite at your legs. When we finally get to the beach we pick a spot to settle our towels and bags and enjoy the beautiful eighty degree weather. We swim, tan, and roam the boardwalk searching for a place to eat dinner. My mother picks a small Italian restaurant; even though it was pretty expensive the food was delicious and we all enjoyed ourselves. On the walk home we all carry something back to the house and of course I get stuck with the cooler. My sister calls back to me asking if I need help because I slowly start drifting away from the rest of the group. I reassure her that I will be fine and not to wait up. I eventually make it to the house and unload the cooler, I then walk in and pass out on the couch exhausted from the sunny day. By the time I knew it we were packing up our clothes and the cars to leave for home. Every year we take a picture with us all standing outside the house with sad faces and then load up into the car. Watching the island as we drive away always makes me sad to say goodbye. Then I remember next year we will be back to make more wonderful memories.

Blind Contour

Another one of our projects was making a blind contour page. We not only made a blind contour of ourselves but we filled out a page of unfinished sentences that describe ourselves. For example, My Name is... or I am... and we had to incorporate it into our drawing. Some of the drawings are colored and some are just black and white like mine. This is my page hope you like it!

Lanterns

One of our projects was making a lantern out of paper. We cut out the design we wanted and then put tracing paper on the back. Most of the students used glass containers to put inside their lanterns and so when they lit a candle, put it inside the glass container, and turned off the lights you could see the design. We also had to pick a seasonal theme like summer, fall, winter, or spring. For my lantern i picked spring, liked the idea of the plants growing again and trees growing out their leaves and i think it is a very nice time of the year. For my lanterns i decided to to make them hang with a light bulb inside instead of a candle and for my one lantern i tinted the tracing paper so it was not just white. It was a long process and a little tedious considering for my one lantern i had to manually glue the entire paper and tracing paper together, but I am very happy with the way my lanterns had come out.

The Empty Bowls Dinner

Haddon Township High School is holding a dinner in their cafeteria on February 9th to raise money to feed families that are starving. The art classes have been working on clay bowls, designing them, and glazing them for anyone interested to buy and eat out of for this dinner.I personally have never gone to this dinner but I plan on attending this year and eating some of the delicious food that families and local businesses have donated. The school is always looking for more food donations for this event, it is very much appreciated when anyone pitches in. So spread the word! and even if you cannot donate then come and chow down on some yummy pasta and soup! I have taken some pictures of the bowls that were made and they have turned out beautifully!

Necklace

In middle school the students in my class were assigned to pick a piece of art they liked and draw it on a piece of plastic then my teacher would shrink it and turn it into a necklace or key chain. I thought it was funny because I chose one of Georgia O'Keeffe's pieces of art named "Red Canna" and had absolutely no idea who the artist was or anything, I just really liked the picture. It obviously is not nearly as good as her painting but hey I tried!
